Medicare Refund Error:
How clients should return money
September 8, 2006
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently
announced that they erroneously refunded Medicare beneficiaries’ Part
D Prescription Drug plan premiums. Affected beneficiaries must return
the money.
CMS has already sent a letter to those affected explaining the
error and repayment options. Several hundred Regence members
on Part D plans were affected.
Although this error did not involve Regence, we want
to help our affected members understand what they need to do to
repay CMS. When you talk with your Medicare clients, please ask
if they are affected, and whether they have any questions about
this situation.
